Biography

James Butler of Doon, the eldest son, was sent to France in 1695 with one of the “Flights of the Wild Geese” for his education. While still in his teens `he joined the Irish Brigade as an officer of the famous Clare’s Dragoons, in which he fought at Ramillies and Malplaquet.

He married Mary O'Shaughnessy.

Children:

  1. James married in 1763 to Theresa O'Hogan, dau of Murtagh O'Hogan of Cross

He returned to Ireland after the Peace of Utrecht. [1]

James Butler of Doon died in 1746
