Ethel was born 1902 at Vere near Broke, the daughter of John William BUTLER and Ethel Adeline SMITH, she died in 1946 at Lochinvar and was buried at the Lochinvar cemetery aged 44 years. In 1927 she married Leslie KNIGHT.

19 Aug 1946 Singleton Argus: SINGLETON NATIVE'S UNTIMELY PASSING Mrs. Ethel Bertha Knight, who spent the whole of her life in this district until departure for Allandale some 12 months ago, passed away unexpectedly in Maitland Hospital on Monday last. The deceased took suddemy ill just after breakfast, and death had intervened by lunch-time. The deceased, who was mar-ried to Mr. Les Knight, who spent most of his life at Bulga, was a daughter of the late Mr John William Butler, of Broke Road, and Mrs. Butler, who now resides at Aberdeen. She was well known throughout the district, and during her life she made a large circle of staunch friends. Prior to marriage, the late Mrs. Knight was a music teacher in Single-ton for a number of years, in addition to her sorrowing husband, de-ceased, who was only 44 years of age, leaves a family of eight, namely, Joyce, Melba, Hilton, Leila, Olga, Milton, Neta and Noel. Four sisters and three brothers also survive, the sisters being Mesdames John Knight (Ravensworth), A. Merrick (Pitt St. Singleton), and Patterson and L. Merrick (Aberdeen), and the brothers are Messrs. Cecil Butler (Broke), Percy Butler (Whittingham) and Reg Butler (Maerannie). The funeral took place last Tuesday, the remains being interred in the Church of England cemetery at Lochinvar.

A wedding was celebrated at All Saints' Church, Singleton, on the 23rd November by Rev. H. Linton, when Ethel Bertha, second eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs J. W. Butler, of Vere, was married to Leslie, second eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. F. Knight, of Broke. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, was gowned in a pretty little frock of ivory crepe de chine with silver trimmings, and a cut tulle veil with a coronet of orange blossoms and silver shoes to tone. Misses Verlie Butler and Gladys Knight, sister of the bride and bridegroom respectively, were bridesmaids, and wore rose pink and powder blue crepe de chine with hats to tone. Mr John Knight acted as best man, and Mr Percy Butler as groomsman. Afterwards a reception was held at the "Concord" Cafe, where about thirty guests were present.
