New Information

A reputable Butt researcher has challenged the parents of Barrick/Barruch/Barrick Butt. Preliminary examination calls for questions on dates. War pension records Barrick died 18 Aug 1825 at age 79, estimated birth 1746, two years after father died 1744. This later birth date solves mother Rachel's age at his birth. This profile may be conflated, in need of splitting.

Two non-duplicate men named Barruck Butt were connected to wife Dinah Butt.

This profile, Barruck Butt (abt.1746-1825), has no known parents and is probably correct husband of Dinah.

Barruck Butt (abt.1755-abt.1825) needs to have conflating info of Butt-47 removed and disconnected from Dinah. Further work could be done to gather additional information to differentiate both profiles to prevent further duplicate confusion. A general internet search only found information relevant to Butt-47

Alternate and/or Unproven and/or Incorrect Information

Information taken from "A Branch From The Green Tree" 1978 Robert M. Green.
Page 98. Dinah Butt was the daughter of Archibald Butt and wife of Barruck Butt, who was the son of Benjamin Butt. This Dinah and Barruck would have been a generation later than the subjects of this profile.
Page 104. 1817 Will of Benjamin Butt lists a son named Barruck. This is probably the son of Richard Butt (1703-1743) and Rachel Duvall (1712-??), brother of Barruck 1740, and husband of Mary Wicker (1748-1815).
Page 110A. 1849 Will of Benjamin Butt lists a son named Barruck. Children roughly match those of the Benjamin above. Both Wills could not apply to the same person, especially a Benjamin born about 1744.
Robert M. Green and his team were obviously focused on the Green family, but included many allied families, such as the Butt family. The three examples above illustrate that this book reached many faulty conclusions about the Butt family, especially Barruck, of which there were several in different generations.

Information taken from "Frank L.M. Wolford & Laura May Green, Their Ancestors & Descendants" Compiled by Loraine Russell Kerns & Alma Wolford Russell 2004.
RICHARD2 BUTT (RICHARD1) was born 11 Nov 1703 in Queen Anne's Parish, Prince George Co., Maryland6,7, and died Bef. 28 Nov 1744 in Prince George's Co., Maryland8,9. He married RACHEL DUVALL Abt. 1740.
Children of RICHARD BUTT and RACHEL DUVALL are:
i. BARRUCK3 BUTT, b. Abt. 1730.
[12] Subsequent information is irrelevant for someone born in 1730, or even someone more likely born about 1740 based on parents marriage estimate. The Kerns & Russell book attempted to update some of Robert M. Green's 1978 book, but restricted its coverage of his allied families, and only had this mention of Barruck, which is similarly flawed.

Where do we turn for a reliable reference on the Butt family history and tree information? There are a few researchers who have done extensive, and possibly exhaustive, research for many years. Their information can be found on Ancestry or by internet search.

Richard Butt is not his father. I found Richards will and he is not listed in it You can find in on ancestry.com under gallery on Richards family tree that I created for him. At this time Barrick /Baruch Butts parents and actual place of birth are unknown. It is assumed it was Maryland as he enlisted there but there is no proof. I personally have read every Butt will found in Virginia that could be in the right time frame and haven't found him mentioned anywhere except for his own will and in his wife Dinah's brother's estate settlement. Please remove this incorrect information so that it doesn't keep getting passed on. For more information please refer to my ancestry tree Barrick/Baruch/Barrack Butt DNA Family Tree The information there is proven by wills, census, Revolutionary War records ect they are all in his gallery. His Wife Dinah's Father is Richard Butt that died in 1799 in Berkeley Co Virginia.
