Jacob was born in 1783. He is the son of James Butterfield and Katherine Runyan of Hartwick, Otsego County, NY.
Jacob Butterfield, a tanner and shoemaker, about 1811, purchased of Osgood Church three acres on which he built a tannery and carried on business for years in Wolcott, NY.
