Biography

Charles was born in 1876^[1] in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England, where he lived with his parents, Walter Butterfield and Louisa Beckitt, in 1881^[2] and 1891. He was a marine engine fitter.^[3]

In 1895 he married Julia Elizabeth Ready.^[4] The family lived in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, in 1901^[5] and 1911.^[6]
