Biography

Phebe was the fourth of 15 children born to John Butterfield and Naomi Stevens of Goffstown, New Hampshire. She was married in Goffstown on 15 November 1792 to Enoch Dow, the son of Job Dow and Hannah Pattee. Together they had 11 or possibly 12 children. Phebe was enumerated on the 1850 census for Goffstown with her daughter Naomi, whose age of 40 is too low by about 10 years, and a possible daughter, Henrietta, b. ca 1812 (aged 38). A child this age conflicts in age with William, below, and raises the question whether William even existed, and perhaps that ninth child should be Henrietta.
