Charles Butts was born in 1810 in Hancock County, Georgia, United States.

Charles (age 25) first married Louisa Johnson (age 15 in 1836 in Hancock County, Georgia. Their children were:

  1. Nancy Ann Butts Lott (1836-1890)
  2. Sarah A. Butts Floyd Pickett (1840-1924)
  3. Lydia L. Butts Bounds (1842-1870)
  4. Amanda Butts Davis (1844-1893)
  5. Phillip Adam Butts (1847-1907)
  6. Thomas Butts (1840-1860)

By 1850, Charles (age 38) had moved his family from Georgia to Barbour County, Alabama, where he would remain.[1]
