Biography

Alice Buxton was born on 05 Jun 1785 and baptised on 03 Jul 1785 in Bradbourne, Derbyshire. Her father was Walter and mother was Mary. ^[1]

John Platts was married to Alice Buxton in Bradbourne, Derbyshire on 10 Sep 1811. ^[2]

The couple had a child, Matilda, who was christened on 13 Sep 1812 in Parwich, Derby and who died age 24 and was buried on 3rd Nov 1836 in Bradbourne, Derbyshire, England. ^[3][4][5]

John and Alice had another child, Dorothy, who was baptised on 05 Mar 1815 in nearby Bradbourne, Derby. ^[6][7] Dorothy was married to James Watson on 20 Jul 1835. ^{[8][9][10][11]}

John and Alice also had a son, Walter baptised in Parwich on 10th Nov 1819 who died in infancy on 27 Mar 1820 ^[12][13]

John Platts of Parwich emigrated to New York in 1821 aboard the ship, Manhattan, arriving on 21st May 1821. He apparently did not have his family with him. ^[14][15]

There is a marriage for a widowed Alice Platts of Bradbourne, Derby in 1837, to a John Plant, widower. Presumably if John left without trace/went to the USA without her, she was able to have him declared dead after 7 years. ^[16][17]
