This first son was born about 1770. (His father had three boys, one of whom was over 12 and two girls 1782. Matthew was of age in his petition of 19 June, 1797 (B51) with his brothers Peter and John. He married Nancy/Anna Umphrey, daughter of a Loyalist 26 July 1797 at Matilda, Dundas. His OC in 1797 resulted in the grant of Lot 18 Concession 11 in Winchester, Dundas 22 June 1797 for which he gained the patent on 10 June 1801. He was in the Darlington, Durham Census of 1818-1823 living near his brother William. Between 1827 and 1843 he was in Brock, Ontario County land records. He died 26 June, 1844 probably with sons Samuel and Hamilton in Victoria County.
