James William Bybee was born on January 1, 1862, to Bluford Bybee and Mary Ann Tharp.
In 1880, he was living with his parents and his maternal grandfather in Fristoe, Benton, Missouri.
He was married first to Mary E. Rank in 1882, and second to Rosella "Rosie" Parker Stratton, on December 3, 1930, in Clinton, Henry, Missouri.
In 1900, he and his first wife, Mary, were living in Union, Benton, Missouri, with nine children and his parents. By 1910, eight children and his father were living with them in the same place.
He was widowed before 1920, at which time he was living with four of his children, as well as his father, in Fristoe, Benton, Missouri. He was still living here in 1930, with his youngest son's family, including a wife and child.
He died on September 14, 1937, and is buried at Mossy Cemetery in Edwards, Benton, Missouri.
