Biography

Mary was born in 1881. She is the daughter of Nathaniel Byers and Mary O'Brien. “First Civil Court in Melbourne on Monday, heard a petition by John Alexander Leitch, 38 years of age: of Bruarong, near Yackandandah, for divorce from Mary Ellen Leitch, 31 years of age, of Tallangatta, on the ground of desertion and misconduct. After hearing evidence, Mr. Justice A' Beckett granted a decree nisi with costs against Michael Abdullah, the corespondent.” [The Albury Banner, 13 Dec 1912] In 1912 to 1949 Michael Abdullah Abbot and Mary Ellen had a dairy farm at Tallangatta. [electoral roll] Mary Ellen Abbott died 17 July 1954 at Towonga Hospital “Mrs Abbott had been a resident of Tallangatta for many years and with her husband conducted business there.” [Upper Murray and Mitta Herald, 22 July 1954]
