Martha Byram was born in 1746 in Mendham, New Jersey, the daughter of Eliab Byram and Phoebe Leonard (Byram). She was the 2nd Great grand-daughter of Nicholas Byram I of Kent, England and Bridgewater, Massachusetts and Susannah Shaw (Byram). She married Benjamin Chamberlain (1747-1816) in 1766 in Sparta, New Jersey and had 9 children with him.
