Biography

It was stated that Elizabeth Bird / Byrd was born about 1591, in Broxton, Cheshire, England, daughter of John Bird and Elizabeth Burgh.[1] [Further source or sources required]

On September 18, 1617, at St. Andrew by the Wardrobe in London, England, an Elizabeth Byrd married Thomas Byrd[2]. It was stated that Thomas was the son of Thomas LeBird and Alice Palyn.[3] [Further source or sources required]

They had four children:[4] [Further source or sources required]

  • John Thomas Bird
  • Thomas Bird
  • William Bird[5][6]
  • Anne Bird

Her husband Thomas Bird, Vintner, died in 1623 [source?].

In a paper by Stewart on William Bird [the supposed son of Thomas Bird and Elizabeth Bird][5] he was cautious about the parents/origin of William Bird. In a footnote (p190) he commented that the father of Elizabeth Bird was John Bird of the City of London and that she married her first cousin Thomas Bird, son of Thomas Bird of Broxton, Cheshire. It appears that this was based on "a section made in 1698 of an armorial pedigree of the Byrd family, in the possession of a William Byrd Esq. of New York".

Elizabeth died in 1665, in London, England [7] [Further source or sources required].

Research Notes

An earlier profile for Elizabeth Bird had indicated that she had also married Thomas Stegge and Thomas Grendon. However, the Elizabeth who married Stegge and Grendon is thought to be Elizabeth Carey

Born 1579 All Hallows Barking, London, England. [8]

Died 01 DEC 1678. Dukes Hall, London, England. [9]

Elizabeth Burgh-2 was the mother of the wife of Thomas. Correct dates for Elizabeth match Burgh-241. Dates should be corrected, and -241 merged into -2.

I removed her parents as they were the same father and a different mother.as her husband's parents, her LNAB looks incorrect, the removed mother needs to be addressed

Byrd-1048 and Burgh-2 do not represent the same person because: Possible mother - daughter. Both profiles contain data that needs to be corrected. Best available source seems to be Byrd (Bird), Wayne A. The Bird-Byrd Genealogy Prepared for the Byrd / Bird Family (English and Norman Heritage: self-published, Copyright 2002 - 2005) (Free e-book.
