Biography

Dewey was born in 1898. He was the son of Zachariah Byrd and Asineth Marcum.[1]

Dewey Byrd married Elma Rector. They lived in Scott County, Tennessee, United States.[2][3]

He passed away in 1993. He was buried in Rector Cemetery, Scott County, Tennessee, USA.[4]

Obituary,

Dewey Byrd, 94, of Rt. 1, Huntsville, passed away Wednesday morning, February 17, 1993 at his home. Born on April 22, 1898 in the Norma community, he was the son of the late Zachriah Byrd and the late Acynith Marcum Byrd. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Elma Rector Byrd; his second wife, Gertie Coker Byrd; and twelve brothers and sisters. He was retired from Plateau Electric Cooperative and was a member of White Rock Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Leela Byrd Cross of Huntsville; one son, Johnny Byrd of Nashville; one brother, Delus Byrd of Helenwood; six grandchildren: Lisa Jane Gotleib, Nancy Rogers, Herstle Cross, Jr. Teri Sullivan, Kimberly Hodges and Michael Byrd; and seven great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and many other relatives survive also. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 20 from the West-Murley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jim West and the Rev. Leon Mays officiating. Nancy Murley sang. Burial followed in the Rector Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Jerry Willard Thompson, Herbert Chambers, James Potter, Randy Cox, Edson Jeffers, Benji Rector, Jerry Murley and Obis Byrd, West-Murley was in charge of the arrangements.
