Biography

Joseph was born in 1919. He was the son of Joseph Byrd and Lillian Brewer. He passed away in 2002. He did not have children.

In the long history of Locust Grove III only two families with common ancestors have owned this property. The Dysons and then the Byrds cleared, settled and prospered on this land starting in the late 1700s...In 1836 John sold all his property to George Byrd, who had married his niece Nancy (called Ann) Dyson, daughter of Jeremiah...In 1882 John B. Byrd, the son of George and Ann, bought the interests of most of the other heirs to Locust Grove. He, too, had married a Veirs daughter. He and Sally Veirs had ten children. Both lands of the Byrds, one purchased from John Dyson and Locust Grove descended from Jeremiah Dyson, were then united under the ownership of John Byrd's sons. In 1909 Sally, widow of John, conveyed to John B. Byrd, Jr. and Joseph D. Byrd, 11 • • • for $10,750 ••• parts of Thomas' Discovery and Accident (169 acres), parts of William & Mary and Daniel's Inheritance (133 3/4 acres) and parts of Addition to Partnership (59 3/8 acres) and other lands ••• total of 358t acres.n'/ John Byrd, Jr. never married, but Joseph D. Byrd married Lillian Brewer in 1917...The two properties were conveyed to the sons of Joseph and Lillian Byrd between 1969 and 1971. They are the seventh generation to own this land. At present Joseph Byrd, Jr. resides at Locust Grove III.
