In Jun/Nov 1757, Elgate Hitch was listed as next-of-kin along with William Byrd in estate of Thomas Bird valued at £276.4.0 (MdPrI Abstracts-1755/60). The Somerset County Tax List for 1757 was compiled by Elget Hitch, constable, and he was listed therein in Wicomico Hundred in the same household as negroes Will and Conunder.

Know all men by these presents that we Catherine Bird, William Bird and Purnall Johnson of Somerset County are held and firmly bound unto Betty Bird, Joshua Bird, Thomas Bird and Benjamin Bird' Representatives of Thomas Bird decd. in the full and Just Sum of Two hundred and fifty four pounds Curt Money of Maryland to be paid to the Said Betty, Joshua, Thomas, and Benjn. Bird them or any of them their or Any of their heirs Exrs. Admrs. or Assigns to the which payment well and truly to be made and done we bind our Selves and Each of us our and Each of our heirs Exrs. Admrs. for the whole and in the Whole Jointly and Severally firmly by these presents Sealed with our Seals and dated this 16th day of June Anno Dom. 1762
The Condition of the above Obligation is Such that whereas the Commissary General hath transmitted unto this Court the Account of the Estate of Thomas Bird decd. wherein it is found that there is a Ballance due to the above
Said Representatives the Sum of One hundred and Twenty Six pounds Sixteen Shillings and five pence Curt Money therefore if the abovesaid Catherine Bird, William Bird and Purnall Johnson them or Any of them their or Any of their heirs Exrs. Admrs. do and Shall well and truly pay or Cause to be paid unto the abovesaid Representatives the afd. Sum of One hundred and Twenty Six pounds Sixteen Shillings and five pence Curt Money According to Act of Assembly and decd. Will when they Shall Arrive at full Age to Receive the Same then the above Obligation to be Void Else to Remain in full force and Virtue.
