Biography

Daniel was the eldest son of Garret Byrne and Elizabeth Butler. He was baptised on 6 March 1829 at St John's, Ossory, Kilkenny City. His sponsors were Thomas Byrne and Ellen Butler. NB Entry bottom left corner.

The immigration record attached shows Daniel Byrne of Kilkenny, Ireland aged 22 accompanied by Edmund Byrne (30) arriving in Victoria in 1852 on the ship Cambodia. (Age given for Edmund is conflicting).

Daniel Byrne is to be engaged by AG Mollar at Point Henry for a year and to be paid £40 in total. His brother Edmund is travelling on his own account and his intention was to go to Melbourne once leaving the ship.
