James only had one hand because when he was going through a wire fence whilst holding a rifle he accidently shot himself in the left hand. We don’t know if he shot the hand off completely or if it had to be amputated. He had a hook. He was a painter by trade.
OBITUARY. Mr. James Alfred Byrne, who recently passed away at the age of 84 years, was born at Kooringa, and at the age of two years came with his parents to reside at Kapunda. The later years he spent between his six daughters, who survive. He has left one brother, Arthur, of Broken Hill. For many years he was employed as a painter by the late Mr. Henry Dutton of Anlaby. He was a widower and was well known as "Taffy Byrne.
BYRNE.— On July 10, at Adelaide. James Alfred (Taffy) Byrne, leaving six daughters to mourn their sad loss, in his 84th year.
