Biography

James was born in 1834 in New Brunswick, Canada. After moving to California James Byrne ran an Inn at Salt Point in Sonoma County. Later he worked as blacksmith and wagonmaker. According to his granddaughter, Mabel Byrne Andersen, he met his wife Nellie Moore Johnson, a local school teacher when he came to her to make a replacement for the key to the schoolhouse which she had lost. He passed away in 1913.[1]

Thanks, Pam. I had not seen that site. It looks like much of it came from Dorothy MaKenzie McHugh's family. Dorothy wrote a nice little book of stories about the family.
