Catherine was born in Ireland, and immigrated to Rhode Island with her parents. She continued to live with them, until she married later in life, and had two children.
On 8 September 1891 in Providence, Rhode Island, Thomas James Smith, age 27, a barber, born in England and the son of Henry W. and Harriet Smith, married Catherine Frances Byrne, age 28, born in Providence, the daughter of William and Bridget Byrne.[1]
