Angela Young privately published an account of this family Byrnes, published in a privately published 1980 publication and shared her research notes with other researchers. [1] These notes quoted specific parish records from Enniscorthy in 1746, 1768, 1769, 1772, 1774 and 1776. The registers have not been seen by recent researchers are not available online from the NLI. [2]
Young gave an exact date only for the baptism of James Byrne.
The records are as follows:
Baptism of John Byrne: 1746
Marriage of John Byrne and Ann (or Nancy) Byrne: 1768
Baptism of children of John Byrne and Ann/Nancy Byrne:
James 3 September 1769
Thomas 1772
Patrick 1774
Andrew 1776
Thomas's parents were definitely "John and Nancy" (documented in his death certificate) but the parentage of James and the other information rests entirely on this record that has not been properly sourced and has not been seen in recent years. The death certificate of his son Thomas says he was a carpenter.[3]
