Biography

Thomas was born in 1912 to Herbert Henry Byrnes and Sarah Ann (Ryan) Byrnes in Condobolin NSW. Herbert was recorded as being 35 years old, a teamster and born in in Cugong, Condobolin NSW. Sarah's birthplace was recorded as Melbourne Victoria and she was 32 years old.

Thomas' birth transcript records the names of his siblings as: William N 11, Daphne I 9, Herbert P 5, Leonard H 2, with two females deceased.

At 18 years of age Thomas married Irene Mary Kelly (20 yrs old) at the RC Church at Leeton NSW. Consent was given in writing by Sarah Byrnes (mother of the bridegroom) and John Kelly (father of the bride) for the marriage. Thomas and Irene were married at the RC Church Leeton NSW by the minister Patrick Clifford.

Thomas enlisted on 5th February 1942 at Paddington NSW for service in WW2. He was posted with the 16 Garrison Battalion as a Private and was posted for some time in a POW camp at Cowra. Thomas was recorded as being a baker and pastry cook foreman. He was discharged on 16th April 1946.

On the 9th October 1955 at Leeton, Thomas was knocked down and killed while riding his bike at night. An Inquest was held to investigate the incident and he was buried on 10th October 1955 in his parents plot.

His cause of death was recorded as: 'Effects of injuries accidently received on the 8 Oct 1955 in Palm Ave Leeton, through being knocked down by a motor car. Finding at Inquest held at Leeton on 2 Nov 1955 by WR Cox, Coroner.'

Thomas and Irene had 4 children and lived apart at the time of their deaths. His death transcript records them as: Raymond J 23, Vilma J M 21, John R 18, Robert P 9.

Irene passed away on 19 Nov 1954 in Sydney NSW.
