Biography

Wilhelm Rudolf Bäckman was born on 23 Feb 1898 in Svanå Bruk, Haraker, Västmanland, Sverige, son of knippsmed Karl August Bäckman (1861 - 1924) and his wife Anna Lovisa Dahl (1861 - 1929). Both his parents descended from old smith families in Västmanland and Värmland.

His siblings were:

  1. Ingeborg Bäckman (1900s - 1990s)
  2. Clara Lovisa (Bäckman) Almberg (1883 - 1966). Emigrated to the United States.
  3. Karl Gerhard Bäckman (1887 - 1957)
  4. Maria Elisabet (Bäckman) Johnson (1890 - 1964). Emigrated to the United States.
  5. Johan Artur Bäckman (1896 - 1944)
  6. Anna Emilia Bäckman (1906 - 1929)
  7. Märta E. Bäckman (1900s - 1970s)

Wilhelm Rudolf lived with his parents in Svanå bruk,[1][2] where he followed in his father's foot steps and became an iron worker at Svanå bruk. He married Edit Emilia Andersson born 1904 in Romfartuna parish. They had son Roland Edmund b. 1923 in Svanå. The family moved to Sura parish in 1925.[3]

He was divorced on March 26, 1952.

Wilhelm Rudolf died on 10 Oct 1986 in Surahammar, Västmanland aged 88.
