Marie left Germany for the United States on the 4th August 1906, arriving at New York on the 16th August, by way of the Pennsylvania,[2] with a stated final destination of "St Jose, California". Marie's travel companion was her aunt, Henrietta Jungblut née Bünemann, who was going to join her son, Wilhelm.[3]

On the 12th March 1908, Marie and Jens Peter Lauritz "Peter" Kirschbaum were married, in San Jose, Santa Clara, California, by Charles W Davison, Justice of the Peace; with their witnesses being Wilhelm Jungblut (Marie's cousin), and L. Ziegler.[4] Peter and Marie subsequently had one known child, a daughter: Eleanor Catherine, in September 1909.[5]

Marie seems to have fluctuated between "Marie", "Mimi", "Mamie",and "Maria", for her use aka call name, finallysettling on "Mimi".

Jens Peter having died somewhen between 1928 and 1930, Marie – using the name Mimi Ella Kirschbaum – married secondly Lewis George Pfrang, a builder, on the 11th January 1936, in Oakland, California, with the officiant being Edgar F Gee, Rector.[6]

Ella Marie "Mimi" Pfrang née Bünemann, also Kirschbaum, passed away on the 1st June 1963, in Santa Clara, California, United States, just six weeks after her 77th birthday.[7] [8]
