William Thomas Cadaret was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 9, 1893 to Emily Delina Drouillard Cadaret and Joseph Israel Cadaret. His Father had gone to work in Cleveland but later the family moved back to Toledo, Ohio where his Father worked at Tiedtkees as a butcher. William came from a large family of boys, Paul, Harvey, Ray, and Albert, a sister Margaret their only surviving sister, another sister was born but died in childbirth. At one time William was an alter boy in St Josephs Catholic Church in Toledo, Ohio and he became the husband of Elizabeth McGrath at about the age of 22. Early in the marriage his first borns were triplets. One died and is buried in Willow Cemetery in Toledo, Ohio. He had Margaret, Mary Jane, Doris, Betty, William Jr, and Eugene. In the early part of his life he was a porter for the Hocking Valley Railroad and later he worked as a fireman for the same railroad but he suffered a serious accident which took his eye and burned his face, also damaging some of his internal organs. He sufferered many years with sickness due to this but he had an unvavering spirit that lead him to work at Willys in Toledo , Ohio and own a business in Hessville, Ohio where he not only had cabins he was a cook in the small restaurant that went with it, plus selling gas there. He was a Mason and an avid gardener. He is best known for his chili which a story was written about him in Bend of the River Magazine telling of his life and adventures in chili making. A good man, remembered with love and always called Grandpa.
