Biography

William Cadman (William Cadman I) Christened Dec 26, 1638: Wirksworth,Derbyshire, England. [1]

The Cadman family of Dartmouth in Plymouth County is described in the book Ancestral Lines, Third Edition by Carl Boyer 3rd, published by the author, Santa Clarita, California, 1998. Boyer noted that Austin's treatment of the Cadman family was quite thorough, more so than any other published works.
William Cadman appeared first in Portsmouth, Rhode Island as a witness to a deed of Ralph Earle on 19 February 1652/3, and was received as an inhabitant on 5 June 1654. On 23 August 1659, he complained to the Assembly about the failure of Quissuckquoanch to pay a debt for which he had obtained a judgment from the General court in Providence the previous March.
In 1658 and 1667, he was a juryman, and he was a Deputy to the General Court in 1670, 1672-1674, 1679 and 1682, and he was an Assistant in 1672, 1676, 1682 and 1683. In 1674, he served on the town council of Portsmouth and as Overseer of the Poor.
On 24 August 1676, he was a member of the Court Martial at Newport which tried several Indians following King Philip's War.
He deeded land in Dartmouth in Plymouth Colony to his son George Cadman, then of Dartmouth, on 28 June 1682, for love. He was last on record as having been appointed overseer of the will of Hugh Parsons on 11 January 1684.
His wife, Elizabeth, joined in a deed made by their son Richard on 22 September 1688.
He was styled "Lieutenant" in some records.

He died in 1684 in Portsmouth, Newport, Rhode Island, United States #S361
