John married Sarah Margaret Fitzgerald in Rotherham, Yorkshire,West Riding, England on October 1861 [4] In England, He was a coal miner by trade.
He immigrated into the US in 1872 on the S/S Parthia leaving Liverpool on Sept 17, 1872 arriving in New York City on Sept 27, 1782. The family of 8 traveled steerage. [5][6]. They settled in Stafford, Kansas and he became a Farmer by trade. [7]
