John was born in Mosboro, Derbyshire, England on 1839.^{[1] [2] [3]} He passed away in 1931.

John married Sarah Margaret Fitzgerald in Rotherham, Yorkshire,West Riding, England on October 1861 ^[4] In England, He was a coal miner by trade.

He immigrated into the US in 1872 on the S/S Parthia leaving Liverpool on Sept 17, 1872 arriving in New York City on Sept 27, 1782. The family of 8 traveled steerage. ^{[5] [6]}. They settled in Stafford, Kansas and he became a Farmer by trade. ^[7]
