Biography

Celia Cealey Caffey, daughter of Thomas Caffey and Sarah Celia Stokes Caffey was born October 12, 1812 in North Carolina.

She later lived in Meigs County, Tennessee.

The family relocated to Webster County, Missouri.

Celia Caffey never married but she had a daughter, Zilpha, who married Noah Calton.

Celia Caffey lived with her parents all of her life. She is buried at the Eureka Cemetery at Rader, Missouri.

Thomas Caffey and Sarah Celia Stokes Caffey were married January 4, 1812 in North Carolina. On October 12, Their first daughter, Celia Cealey Caffey, was born October 12, 1812. Records indicate she was born in North Carolina.

After 1821, Thomas and Sarah Caffey may have left the state of North Carolina since nothing more is known of them there. A Thomas Caffey, born between 1790 and 1800 is found in Meigs County, Tennessee in 1840 with a large family.

After Celia was born in 1812, she had a brother, Robert Caffey, born on June 20, 1814 in North Carolina. Another brother, Michael came along in 1817. The fourth child of Thomas and Sarah Caffey was Levin Caffey, in 1819 with Sarah Caffey born in 1820. The sixth child was Elizabeth born on May 14, 1823, Thomas born March 5, 1825, Francis born June 13, 1827.

Celia was 22 years old when she had Zilpha, born October 7, 1834. In the 1850 United States Federal Census, Celia and Zilpha are living with Thomas and Sarah Caffey. Thomas is 57 years old, Sarah is 56 years old. They are living in Subdivision 22, Meigs, Tennessee. Zilpha is 15 years old. Celia's brothers and sisters living in the home are: Francis, 22; Edward, 21; George, 18; Joseph, 14. Also living in the home is Ealy Stokes who is 84.

Celia Caffey's daughter, Zilpha Caffey married Noah Ephraim Calton on December 5, 1861. Zilpha would have been around 27 years old at the time.

In the 1870 United States Federal Census, Celia Caffey, 58, is living in Union, Webster County, Missouri with her parents. Thomas Caffey is 77 years old and his wife Sarah Caffey is 75 years old.

In the 1880 United States Federal Censu, Celia Caffey is 65 years old living with her parents in Union, Webster County, Missouri. Her occupation is listed as keeping house. Her father is 87 years old and her mother is 85 years old.

Upon her death, Celia is buried in the Eureka Cemetery at Rader Missouri. Her parents are also buried there.
