Biography

Alonzo was born in 12, Feb 1879 in Pickens County, Georgia, USA.[1] He was the son of Peter Cagle and Martha Carpenter. He married Miss Willie Alpharetta Dixon in Pickens County, Georgia, USA on 9 Aug 1898. The family lived in the Pickens County, Georgia, USA area until after the first child was born. The young couples first child (Merle Aveline Cagle) was born in her grandfather's house in Picken's county, Georgia, USA. [2] Sometime before the 1900 US Census they moved to Indian Territory (Oklahoma), Chickasaw Nation, ED 135 Township 3 N. Range 1 E. Pauls Valley. [3] Apparently this first stay in Oklahoma was a short one because the family had moved to Coryell County, Texas by the time the second child (Mary Emeline Cagle) arrived in 1901. Sometime before the fourth child (Sherman Lee Cagle) arrived in 1906 the family had moved back to Indian Territory (Oklahoma), Pauls Valley accompanying Alonzo's uncle the Rev. William Cagle. This is just before Oklahoma statehood was ratified in 1907. [4] By the time the fifth child (Delbridge Alonzo Cagle) had arrived in 1908 the family had moved to what was to be the permanent area of family residence in southern McLennan County, Texas near present day Moody. More children were born to the growing family (see list above) eleven in all. Alonzo registered for the WWI military draft in Temple, Bell County Texas on 12 Sep 1918. [5] He passed away 9 Apr 1967 in McLennan County, Texas, USA. [6] Sadly Delbridge died at a young age in 1918 (10 years and one day). Alonzo did not live to see it, but we know he was proud when all ten of his remaining children would later be recognized by the "Guiness Book of World Records". All ten of those siblings married and lived to celebrate fifty years of marriage. The record has since been tied by another family in Minnesota and is no longer featured in that book.

Levi who would have been 20 is missing due to his death at age 14 (in 1888). He would have stood next to Marcus the oldest brother in the photo. Also, Jessie May is absent due to her death in 1886 when she was only about 1 year and 11 months old. She would have been between Stephen and Amanda in the photo if she had survived.
