In 1930 he lived with his parents Harry and Grace in Washington Township, Preble County, Ohio. Grace may have been a stepmother, because Wilbur's obituary gives his mother's name as Mary Catherine Koontz.
According to the Cail genealogy (Preble County library) he was known as "Wig." He was raised on the farm of his parents, Clifford and Mary Catherine "Katie" (Koontz) Cail. A farmer at first, Wilbur became a machinist in a machine shop in Richmond, Indiana. He was said to be good working with his hands, could figure out how things worked, and was a stickler for details.
His obituary gives his address as 116 Hutton Street, New Paris. He retired from Ahaus, Richmond, in 1977. He was survived by his four daughters, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren.
