Joan D. Hazelton, 60

NEW CUMBERLAND, W. Va. - Joan D. Hazelton, 60 succumbed to a three year struggle with cancer on Thursday March 5, 2015.

Joan remained upbeat and positive as was her nature. Always optimistic, she was surrounded by her supporting cast, including her best friend and husband, Fred whom she began a wonderful partnership with on August 2, 1975.

Born in Sewickley on Feb. 28, 1955, she was raised in the Hookstown area and graduated from South Side High School.

Her parents, Dale and Shirley Cain preceded her in death.

Joan and Fred were members of the First Free Methodist Church on St. Clair Ave. in East Liverpool.

Her chosen profession was accounting and she had been working as an accountant for Byer-Wolfe-Lutsch and Kampfer CPA's Inc. in East Liverpool.

Associated with Pittsburgh's Clown Alley, Joan and Fred were most famous for portraying their alter-egos, Sonshyne and Professor Thymble. They entertained countless children, senior citizens, and other groups throughout the years with their creative skits and acts.

In addition to her husband Fred, those left to cherish Joan's memory include her children, Dale Hazelton and wife Becca of New York City, Bonnie McCormick and husband Jesse of Franklin, Pa.; and Jennifer Chisler and husband Chris of Lexington Park, Md.; her sisters, Marian (Tom) McCullough of Moon Township, April Field of Aliquippa, and Georgia (Randy) Parsons of Hookstown; and her grandchildren, Miles and Fox Reed, and Avonlea McCormick.

Her family will gather at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Sunday from noon until 2:15 p.m. and everyone is invited to join them there. Joan's pastor, Carol Forsythe, her family and friends will celebrate her life at the funeral home on Sunday at 2:15 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in her name to the American Cancer Society @ www.cancer.org.
