Russell Norman Cain was born in 1898 in Heywood, Victoria, Australia, the son of Agnes Adele Cain and Horace William Cain.^[1]

He served as Trooper, Mortlake Detachment, B Squadron, Corangamite Light Horse Regiment, 1 Jul 1916 - 22 Feb 1919.^{[citation needed]}

He married Florence Ethel May Wines on 21 December 1929 in Ascot Vale, Victoria.^[2] Their son was:^{[citation needed]}
