Samuel Cain served in the War of 1812 with Adams' Regiment Ohio Militia Pvt. Under Capt. Robert McClelland's Volunteer Co. He was paid $.89 for four days.[2], [3]
Samuel married Jane Lindsey on May 9, 1812 Xenia, Greene Co., OH daughter of Jeremiah Lindsay. [4]

From the Greene Co., OH Common Pleas Court, July Term 1816. Samuel Cain accused of cutting off the ears of two horses and for trespassing. Subpoenas' for Thomas and James Burns, John Steele, Isaac McFarland, and John B. Todd. Testifying for the defendant were John Blessing, John Allen, Enos Linzie, Ruth Mock, Jepe Sanders, and Daniel Cain. (Samuel Steele was a neighbor in Spring Valley Township, he witnessed the will of John Sanders, Samuel Cain's brother-in-law.) Samuel Knight and Lewis Bingaman (brothers-in-law to Samuel Cain) granted security for the effect of $74.94. The evidence was not direct and positive and did not amount to a probable presumption after a jury trial. (My comments: we can only imagine the conflict these allegations and trials caused in a small community such as Spring Valle, OH. Conflict amongst families and neighbors. Samuel Cain and Daniel Mock[10] moved their families to Randolph County, Indiana, shortly after this trial.)[11]
From Randolph Co., IN Past and Present by Smith, pg 347. [12] Samuel Cain owned land one mile North of Winchester, IN. and pg. 960 Samuel Cain owned E.S.W.21,21,14 in 1818. We tried to find the cemetery where Samuel Cain was buried but it is gone. It was called Clear Creek Cemetery, IN of Mock's or Hickey or Brouse's burial ground. It is located in the middle of a woods east of State Road 27, North of county road 600 North. Lost for all time is the burial of Samuel Cain June/July 1846. [17]
