Joseph was born on 1st October 1834 the son of Henry Caine Jane Goodson. He was christened on 21 Dec 1834 at Bull Lane Independent, Stepney, London [1]

In 1851 Joseph Caine was 16 years old, working as an Errand Boy, living in Edward Street, Mile End Old Town, Middlesex, England and living with his parents Henry (51) and Jane (54) [2]
