Biography

Margaret Calder, daughter of John Calder and Isabella Bain was born in the hamlet of Kirk in Bower parish, Caithness on 23 June 1799.[1]

The next time Margaret appears in the records is in 1851 when she appears in the census, living with her mother and brother Alexander in Kirk, Bower where she is described as a common servant.[2]

Margaret continued living with her brother at Kirk for the next ten years, but by 1871 they had moved to Castletown Road in Bower.[3][4]

Margaret died on 26 July 1877 at Scalesburn in the parish of Wick, aged 78. Her death certificate gives the cause of death as "fracture of neck of thigh bone 6 years; chronic bronchitis & debility 10 months.[5]
