Biography

David was born to Alexander Calderwood and Mary Strachan on 20 Feb 1814 in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, Scotland.[1]He had a twin, Alexander Calderwood, who emigrated to Australia.

In 1841, David travelled to Australia aboard the ship "Thomas Arbuthnot", arriving in Port Philip Bay. [2]

He married Elizabeth Holloway in Melbourne in 1843. [3]

David set off for the USA in 1849, where Elizabeth joined him in 1850. Notes in his brother Alexander's diary read: "1849 Feb. 28th David Calderwood sailed in the "Sophia Margaret" for Port St. Francisco In North America." and "1850 In the middle of February William Sleigh and Mrs. Elizabeth Calderwood sailed for California by the Ship "Robert Henderson". [4]

David died in San Francisco, California in 1882.[5]
