William was born in 1891. He was the son of James Caldwell and Elizabeth Culbertson. He passed away in 1956.

Atty. Caldwell Dies At Home
Six Months' Illness Ends In Death
Attorney William J. Caldwell, aged 64, of 2625 Wilmington Road, died at the residence at 10:10 a.m. today alter a six months illness. Mr. Caldwell had been a member of the Lawrence County Bar Association, since 1946. He was President of the Lawrence County Bar Association in 1952 and at the time of his death, he was president of the New Castle Library Board. He was a director ot the Dollar Savings Association.
Attorney Caldwell was a graduate of New Castle High school. He attended Allegheny College, later graduating from Oberlin College and the University of Pittsburgh Law School.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, New Castle Lodge No. 642, F. and A. M., Valley of New Castle Consistory, and a 33rd Degree Mason. He was also past president and a member of the New Castle Rotary Club, member of the B.P.O.E. and the American Legion, Perry S. Gaston Post No. 343.
The late Mr. Caldwell served in World War I. He was also a member of the State and American Bar Associations in addition to being a member of the Lawrence County Bar Association.
Born in Harlansburg, Pa., May 27, 1891, he was a son of the late James P. and Elizabeth Culbertson Caldwell. His father, the late James P. (Deacon) Caldwell was associated with the News in an editorial capacity, for half a century.
Mr. Caldwell resided here all his life and was the senior member of Caldwell and McFate, law firm formerly Hugus, Caldwell and McFate.
Mr. Caldwell was married 28 years to Ruth McEwen Caldwell, who survives him.
Surviving in addition to his widow, Mrs. Ruth Caldwell, is one son, James A. Caldwell, a student at Princeton University.
The body has been taken to the John R. Hodge Funeral Home, Wallace Ave., where services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in charge Dr. Robert F. Galbreath. Interment will be in Oak Park cemetery.
The family will meet friends in the funeral home Friday from 3 lo 4 p.m. and Friday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.
