This is my great-grandmother. Her name was Donie, according to my grandfather. My aunt, her granddaughter, was named Dona. I remember my grandfather telling me that my aunt was not named after Donie, his mother, but was named 'Dona' because my grandparents liked the name. There is a marriage record indicating my great-grandmother's name was 'Donie.' I have appended the citation below. My grandfather said her maiden name was Caldwell, but it truly could have been Culdwell. There were Culdwells in the region of Fayette Co. Georgia, and there were Caldwells, I believe. Donie Culdwell Slayton died before my grandfather reached puberty, and his father married a woman who apparently lived on the farm nextdoor, if census records are anything to go by.

Source, her marriage license from Fayette Co., GA.

Caldwell-3871 and Caldwell-1295 appear to represent the same person because: Donna Caldwell was my great-grandmother. I am not sure when she died, but probably the information from Caldwell 1295 is correct. I do remember my grandfather, Eulays Slayton telling me that his father, Usebious (called Sebe or Sabe, I think) had been married twice. I con't remember off-hand whether Donna was Usebious's first or second wife, likely second. I propose a merger of the two Donna's.

I have Donna Caldwell's birth year as 1871 and her death year as 1937 but that information came to me second hand. I will check the source. She is my great-grandmother.
