Aquilla Caldwell was an Appalachian.

Aquilla Bolton Caldwell (February 11, 1814 – June 18, 1893) was West Virginia's First & Fifth Attorney General, serving between 1863–1864 and 1869–1870. (Elected 1863, Appointed 1869)

Aquilla Bolton Caldwell known as "A.B." or "Bolton" was born about 1814 in Virginia. He is the son of Joseph Caldwell and Mary Roberts Yarnall. His grandfather James Caldwell was an Irish immigrant of some local renown, having been an early settler of the county which would become Ohio, and helping to found the town of Wheeling.

In 1839 Aquila was attending law school at Harvard University in Massachusetts, United States.^[1]

He married Matilda A Newman on 14 May 1846 in East Carroll, Louisiana, United States.^[2]

In the 1860 census Aquilla was living with his family in Wheeling, Ohio County, Virginia, United States. He was an attorney.^[3]

Aquilla was West Virginia's First & Fifth Attorney General, serving between 1863–1864 and 1869–1870. (Elected 1863, Appointed 1869)^[4]

In the 1870 census Aquilla (age 56) was the head of household in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia, United States.^[5]

In the 1880 Acquilla was the married head of household in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia, United States. He was a lawyer living with his wife, two children and two servants^[6]

He died (age 79 years 4 months 7 days) on 18 June 1893 in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia.^[7] Aquilla is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia, his stone marked "A. Bolton Caldwell".^[8]
