It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Hi!

I am related to John Culwell or Caldwell. I have done extensive research on his wife. From what I have found his wife was Mary ?, unknown last name. Mary Timmons was married to another John Caldwell of Marshall County. Their children did not list myG Grandfather Willis Martin Colwell.

In the 1850 Census we find our John Caldwell of Dekalb County, was a Wheelwright. The other John (married to Mary Timmons) was listed as a farmer in the 1870 Census for Marshall County. All data I have says our John lived in DeKalb.

My notes referring to Mary; Our Mary died in 1859 from Thyphoid Fever. The other Mary married to a John Caldwell in Marshall County, was alive in 1870 Census. Our Mary had already passed. And John remarried soon after her death.

John remarried to Sarah Jane Pack. He left Sarah a widow and two children in the 1880 Census. Also, reviewed the 1870 Census and she was alone then as well, so maybe he died before then, or was he off at fighting in the Civil War? As in my notes I have; Was he the Union Soldier who was recruiting in Smithville? Who was killed for doing so with another 7 from his regiment? (Information of this was written in the DeKalb County history book.)

I have heard in this line we have Cherokee. At present time, I would guess it would be our Mary. And would explain why we can not find her parents. Willis Martin was also noted to have said he was half Cherokee. Unverified, but shared by a relative I met on Ancestors.

Please let me know if anyone would like to collaborate.

Thank you, Carla
