Biography

I became involved in genealogy when I found hand written papers after my father's death that detailed our immediate family. Since that time I have identified over 6,000 people that are part of my family and tied two Caldwell families together in our small town who my father claimed were not related .

I also am the File Manager for Washington, Beaver, Westmoreland and Greene counties in Pennsylvania on the USGENWEB site as well as File Manager for Counties Carlow, Derry/Londonderry, Down, Kerry, Louth, Meath and Tyrone for the Irish Genealogy Project.

Thanks for your note, Gary. It looks like your data entry is going well.

If you decide you want to try, we have a help page on How to Split a GEDCOM file which explains how to get smaller files out of various genealogy software programs.

I would also suggest running a Suggestions report periodically. You can find it on any Profile menu titled *grin* "Suggestions." It is a utility which checks the profile for logic errors (typically typos in dates) and some of the Style Guide standards, primarily those for names and locations.

Hi Gary,

You've been a member of WikiTree for about a week so I am checking in to see how it is going. The New Member How-Tos are for you to work at your own pace. If you had time to look, were they helpful?

I'm here to help with questions about how WikiTree works. Just click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page. I'll get back to you by the end of the day.

Debi ~ WikiGreeter

PS If you get a "Page Not Found" error when clicking WikiTree email links, you can often find a working version in the public comments on your profile.

PPS Did you discover that the tags on your profile are clickable links to a page of other people who have that tag? You can add more, up to 20 total.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or special event. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Thank you for volunteering. You are now a full member of WikiTree.

Start with the New Member How-To Pages - they are really useful as you add profiles and learn your way around:

Let me know if you require assistance. I am happy to help. After adding my own family and ancestors I have found many cousins and distant ancestors here on WikiTree.
