They resided in Clay County, Alabama, sometime between 1870 and 1880 and Ezekiel and Catherine raised Lizzie as one of their children. However on the 1880 Federal Census Records in Alabama, Clay County, Alabama , she is said to be the "granddaughter of the head of the household" and the head of household is Ezekiel Kelley married to Catherine Eaton. Lizzie is 17 years old and unemployed. Her parents are unknown but she was raised as a child of Catherine and Ezekiel Kelley. The rumor mill has it that her biological father may have been a Warren Calhoun. More research is needed to prove this.
Lizzie died when her last child, Annie Rosie Kelley, was just 14 years old. She had several children who were already grown and who took over the responsibility of raising her last daughter, Rosie. Rosie lived with her older brother and his family, Benjamin Perry Kelley.
