Biography

The complete story of Robert's parents is at [1] Johnston Calhoun and Jane Donehay on the web.

Robert Calhoun was probably born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania soon after his parents arrived in America from Ireland. The 1790 census for Franklin County supports this.

Robert married Mary Young who was born to a Beaver County family that continued to associate with the Calhouns over the years.

Robert and Mary (Young) Calhoun raised their family in Hookstown, Pennsylvania. Robert acquired a portion of his father's land at Mill Creek in 1833 shortly before his father, Johnston, died in 1835. Robert died shortly thereafter in 1836. Legal proceedings over inheritance from Johnston and Robert continued among the heirs and interested parties for nearly twenty years.

The family appears to have been quite religious. Robert's sons, John and Alexander, were ministers and his daughter, Betsy, married a minister, David Robinson.
