Thomas was born in 1835. He was the son of Thomas Morgan Calhoun and Martha Corn of South Carolina and Georgia. He married Eliza Elizabeth Moore on February 11, 1857 in Alabama. He enlisted in the War of Northern Aggression July 26, 1861 at Brockville, Randolph County, Alabama and was a private in Company K, 13th Regiment, Alabama Infantry. He died the next month in Richmond, Virginia. He left his wife with two small children, James Morgan Calhoun and John Caldwell Calhoun.
