Louis supervised the family farm. After his marriage to Effie, they sold the farm and bought a house “in town” on High Street. He then worked for the US postal service - for many years in the railway division between Detroit and Chicago. While on a Detroit layovers, he would stay with his sister Blanche and family on Bethune Ave. His niece Dorothy has fond memories of her Uncle’s visits - often with gifts for his niece and nephew. Occasionally she would return to Marshall with him on the train, if it fit with her school vacations.
Louis was quick witted, a good speaker and popular in Marshall. He performed in local shows and during WWI spent time speaking at “Liberty Bond Assemblies”.
He was also an avid cyclist - participating in 100 mile rides
