James was born in Shoalhaven NSW. At some point in time he relocated to Walcha NSW where he married Susan Ward

Their son Henry, was killed in WW1, in Poziers France.

James appeared to be a bit of a character. While trying to research him I found some interesting articles in Trove about some of his run ins with the law.

In these articles her was referred to as a "coloured person" and a "half-caste"

Also from researching Henry Callaghan's war record in the National Archives, it appears that James may have done some time in prison
