Biography

Ellen Margaretta Callant was born on December 2, 1885, in Spencer, McCook County, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Thomas Liversage Callant and Etta Monty.[1]

Ellen married Lourence "LC" Huntamer on his 21st birthday on 26 Oct 1906; different reports have the wedding variously in Mitchell and Spencer SD. The couple had their first two daughters in South Dakota:

In 1910, the young family moved to Lacey, Thurston County, Washington, where they took over half interest in a 45 acre farm that LC's father and older brother had bought (at Rural Route 9, Box 453). On the place was a large two-story house (at least 30 years old at the time they bought it), an apple and cherry orchard, and a number of other fruit trees. As LC's brother, John Jr. was living in the “big house”, Lourence built a smaller one for his family.[4] The farm was located in what is now downtown Lacey; at one time, Lacey Blvd was known as Huntamer Street. There, Lourence farmed hogs, cattle and various crops.[5]

The family continued to grow, welcoming children:

LC died on March 19, 1958, at age 72, at home following a heart attack.[18]

Ellen died on March 26, 1973,[19] and is buried in the Ruddell Pioneer Cemetery, Lacey WA[20]
