William died at the age of 79 on 3 June 1885 in Oregon, Holt, Missouri, United States or Illinois.

William was buried after 3 June 1885. Prairie Home Cemetery, west of Graham, Nodaway Co. Missouri

According to family tradition he was a farmer, cabinet maker, and sometimes assisted as a circuit riding Methodist minister. He disagreed with his father and brothers on the slavery question and migrated from Kentucky to Sangamon Co, IL, sometime later to Menard Co, IL and later to Missouri.

He probably moved from Kentucky to Illinois after 1834 after his first wife died. His first child Ann Morton Callaway, lived with her grandmother Rachel Warren Barnard at Princeton until she was 8 years old, when she seems to have joined her father and his second wife in Illinois.

Just before William Dudley died in Missouri he gave to his son Dr. J. E. Callaway at Chillicothe Misssouri his old family bible in which was recorded much data about the Callaway Family. Dr. Callaway sent it to his half sister Ann Callaway at Blackstone, IL with the request that after her death it be passed on to her brother Samuel Callaway. When she died this was done. Since then, the present location of the Bible is not known.[7]

Research Notes

No primary records on FamilySearch. There is a William Calloway in Kentucky in Census from 1860, but wife Elizabeth and kids that don't seem to match.
