Biography

Thomas never knew is father, as Ebenezer died before he was born. Not much is known about Thomas' life, although it's believed he briefly went into the cloth trade in Manchester with his brother, William Romaine Callender. This may be where he met Elizabeth Tate who appears to have worked as a seamstress (she owned a small tailor shop later in life)

Thomas Potts Callender and Elizabeth Tate never married. Their son, Frederick George Tate Callender was born out of wedlock, although Thomas was acknowledged as Frederick's father on the baptismal record. Frederick dropped the surname Callender in favor of his mother's name Tate.
