Biography

Patrick Callinan is believed to have been born about 1804 in Limerick, County Limerick, Ireland.

Patrick Callinan married Bridget O'Donnell sometime around 1820 based on the birth year of their eldest child Mary Callinan in 1821.

In January 1838 Patrick, Bridget and their children John, William, Mary, Biddy, Ann and Margaret, arrived at Sydney, Colony of NEw South Wales, Australia as government assisted immigrants onboard the 'Strathfieldsaye'.[1]

The death registration of his wife Bridget Callinan in 1875 states three additional children were born after arrival in Australia, Ellen in 1838, Kate in 1840, and Denis in 1842.[2] Ellen and Kate are recorded as deceased in 1875. Only birth and death records for Denis have been located.

Patrick Calanan died 11 March 1859 at Twofold Bay. His son in law John Bernasconi was the informant and many details are blank or stated as unknown.[3]

Patrick appears to have been living separately from his wife Bridget, who was in Beechworth, and he was living with his daughter Margaret at the time of his death (who died 28 February 1859).
